On 3rd May two teams of four men played Bellingham in the first round of the Men's Double Rink National Competition. It was the first time Francis Drake BC had entered this competition.
David Singer skipped team A with Stan Augar as his three, they got off to a slow start despite a good effort by Conrad De Sousa and Ron Phillips at one and two.
Dave Fricker (bowling) was two for team B and with Rob Warnes at lead helped them get off to a good start taking the lead after the second end.
Team A had some strong opposition and some very tight heads
Mick Singer (bowling) skipped Team B and with Ken Shooter at three held a consistent lead throughout the game.
It was a long game lasting over three hours, fortunately the sun shone throughout.
At the end of the game Francis Drake men walked off with heads held high having lost overall by only six shots.
