The Ocean Inn for lunch
When we arrived in Dymchurch all I thought I would be doing was enjoying fish and chips and a lovely afternoon playing bowls…. Little did I know the surprise Sue had in store for me as she made me a skip for the day.

Panic button hit.? but the ladies all had great words of encouragement for me so off I headed to the green with a bit more confidence.
I was paired with two great bowlers Pat and Chris from forest hill who really helped me in making the right call.
We came up against a really good team at new Romney and even though we went in at tea time all tied we were defeated in the end by some brilliant play by their skip Kev.
It was a good experience and I ended up enjoying it, but still have lots of learning to do for the future.

Sunday 18th May, and the much awaited day had finally arrived. Our annual visit to New Romney.
Sue did a great job of working out the teams, and I had been teamed with Dennis and Jill. The opposing team took the first point, and we took the second, and from then on, we never really looked back.
It was a great day's bowling, and I occasionally looked over to Maz's rink where she was doing a great job in her first game as Skip. I knew how nervous she would be, as last year I was in her position, but she showed no signs of fear.
We eventually won on our rink 19-9, but it wasn't a true reflection of how our opposition played. Ayleen put up some excellent woods as did their skip, and on several occasions, they were holding 2 or 3 woods, but we had our secret weapon Dennis. Once again, he proved his metal by slipping in a final wood to either cut down the head or take it our way.
Jill and I played a decent game, and all in all, it was a great match. Even the sun made an appearance as the game neared its end.
We had a nice pint and food at the pub in Dymchurch prior to the match, something that I know we all look forward too and although the weather wasn't as warm as previous years, everyone had a great time.
A massive thank you to our hosts New Romney for putting on a fantastic day. The only downside is that we now have to wait a year till our next trip.
